Without going into how we are related, let's just say four or five years ago a cousin of mine emailed and asked me what it would take to put our family tree online. He wanted a place to share stories and pictures and some of the research that we were both doing on our family trees. It was decided to put the tree into an online software called Wordpress. Although Wordpress began as a blog software, it is an excellent method to share stories, photos and allows a place for other people to add comments and questions.

Wordpress offers a place for us to make static pages. We use the "blog" feature to update visitors to the site on what is new. Wordpress has options called plugins that allowed us to add a photo gallery. If we wanted we could add a calendar feature and add everyone's birthdate or upcoming events. Wordpress offers a lot of flexibilty for a family tree website.

One of hopes was for the website to help us connect with other relatives. Shortly after we put the website online we got an inquiry from someone that lived in the country where our ancestors came from. To our surprise, this woman was not a family member but from the family that purchased the property from our family in the 1840s. She has since shared photos of the property as it looks now. Simply beautiful country.

Very recently we found a plugin that allows us to incorprate TNG software (The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding) with Wordpress. TNG is a very powerful online genealogy software. TNG has a lot of features including:

• Give different people different permissions for viewing and editing
• Simple and advanced searching
• Surnames lookup
• LDS tags supported, data protectable
• See all of TNG's features

You can get a Wordpress site started in less time than it takes you to read this sentence. All you need is an email address. Selecting and manipulating the template and adding the right plugins that work can sometimes be a challenge. That is where I can help.
