Introduction

A number of years ago, Dale Sporleder, a distant family member, contacted a family member, Greg Jonas, and myself for more information on the Jonas branch of the Sporleder family. He incorporated what we sent him into his comprehensive Sporleder Family History which is linked below. Wilhelmina "Minnie" Sporleder, the daughter of Carl Franz Ernest August Sporleder (1818-1910) married Frederick Theodor Jonas. They were my great-great grandparents.

Carl Franz Ernest August and Carolina Sporleder

William, Minnie's brother, was the first of the family to immigrate to America. He initially settled in New Lenox, Will County, Illinois, located south of Chicago. William sent money to his family and on July 3, 1871, Minnie, her parents Carl Franz Ernest August and Carolina, along with her brother Henry Carl Peter arrived in Castle Garden, New York City.

Fred and Minnie (Sporleder) were married in Mokena, Will County, Illinois on March 14, 1874. Greg Jonas has claimed a child by the name of Frank was born to Minnie and possibly Fred, but I have not yet found proof of this child's birth. Wilhelm, their first surviving child, was born August 1874 in Illinois. Shortly after, they moved to Kellogg, Jasper County, Iowa where Fred, my great-grandfather was born. They lived and farmed in Iowa. By 1877, they relocated to Manitowoc County. Fred and Minnie took over the family farm in Two Creeks, later buying land in Two Creeks.
